How can I tell which Windows Version came pre installed on me Laptop?

Another way would be to perform a reset factory if the OEM partition is keeped an in good state.

What are your PC manufacturer and exact model ?

If it doesn't work, I suggest you call Mcrososoft support with the product key and they will tell you the edition corresponding.

To extact the product key,

1- Open 'Command Prompt' with Admin privileges (right click -> Run as Administrator)

2- Copy/paste the Following command + Enter

powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

I was recently laid off from my job and I was allowed to keep my work laptop.  They wiped the PC and reinstalled Windows 8.1 Pro and now every time I boot the PC I get a warning that Windows is not activated.  I believe the PC came with windows 10 and I know it has an embedded BIOS OEM KEY which will allow activation if the correct version of windows is installed.  The question is which version came with the PC?

Did you execute the command I told you to find your product key ?

This pc was sold before Windows 10 was released, so I think it came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled.

I suggest you extract product key and call Microsoft support as I told you.
