I would like to know if Windows 10 is compatible with my motherboard and processor. I have Gigabyte X58A-UD3R FE (Ver. 1, I think) motherboard with BIOS Ver.2.06.  My processor is Intel i7 960. Could someone please tell me if my system is compatible with Windows 10. Also, if you could let me know if there are any consequences of just trying to install Windows 10 and see what happens. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Geoffrey

A system with that processor will work with Windows 10 up to version 1703, it will not work with 1709, 1830 or 1809

There is no consequences to trying to install Windows 10, it will either install correctly, or it will not

How to get a previous version of Windows 10

Click this link to download the Windows 10 ISO (1703)

Click this link to download a tool from Microsoft which you can use to create the bootable installation media from that ISO - tool works for Windows 7, 8 and 10

hi Geoffrey. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

It's compatible according to the manufacturer with WIndows 7 to get the best OS performance: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-X58A-UD...

However I have seen reports over the years that it will run Windows 10 decently.

So if you want to try, I would save a System Image backup so you can go back at any time in 20 minutes: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7363/macrium-re...

Then follow these illustrated steps in this link which compile the best possible Clean Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi Geoffrey

It is not certified compatible, the last set of drivers released for it were for Windows 7:

You could probably get away with using Windows 7 drivers, but with Windows 10 constantly evolving, there is a potential components might stop working at some point.
