How to get ä, ö, ü and ß when typing

Is there a keyboard shortcut for getting umlauts (ä, ö, ü) or an Eszett/beta (ß) when writing on Windows 10? I know you can insert a special character manually, but is there any shortcut available so you can just use your keyboard? On my laptop my default language is English, but I have German as a language. My laptop was purchased in an English speaking country so the physical keyboard on my laptop is in English, so there's no buttons for umlauts etc.

(On an Apple laptop you press "option" then click "u" and it will give you an umlaut- so I'm looking for a similar option to this)

    There are no Keyboard shortcut for getting umlauts (ä, ö, ü) or an Eszett/beta (ß) when writing on Windows 10.

    Windows does not have option like mac.

    You have to use ASCII characters combinations

    Kindly follow these steps:

    1. EnableNumber Lock
    2. Press hold ALT key and type a number on the number pad (ALT + 0228 = ä)

    ALT 0223 = ß

    ALT 0228 = ä

    ALT 0246 = ö

    ALT 0252 = ü

    ALT 0196 = Ä

    ALT 0214 = Ö

    ALT 0220 = Ü

    I see that others have recommended Character Map and alt-key combinations. I recommend against both, since they are clumsy and awkward to use There is also the international keyboard layout, which I recommend against for the same reasons.

    Instead I recommend using a third-party program. There are several choices but I recommend the free Wincompose at https://github.com/samhocevar/wincompose

    There is an option to solve your special characters problem.

    In the Search within the computer search for "Character Map", there you will find the characters you need to copy from there.

    The other option is that you can insert them with your ascii code, I attach a link with the ascii table, to put the ascii code you have to keep the alt + num key. (eg alt + 64 = @)

    Soy Asesor Independiente

    Para resolver tu problema de caracteres especiales hay una opción.

    En la opción Buscar dentro de computadora busca "Mapa de Caracteres", ahí encontrarás los caracteres que necesitas copiarlos desde ahí.

    La otra opción es que puedas insertarlos con su código ascii, te anexo un link con la tabla ascii, para pone el código ascii tienes que mantener la tecla de alt + num. (ej. alt + 64 = @)

    Espero esto te ayude a obtener lo que necesitas
