RegCreateKeyEx failed: code 5. Access denied

Gentlemen,

Since having installed the WIN10 1809 version I get several times when (re)installing a file the message in the subject line. This happens also when attempting to install as Administrator.

I have checked also the entries in the registry, but under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" non of the programmes were indicated that I wanted to install.

Troubleshooting service in Update&Security could also not repair the problem.

What else to do?

Your advice is appreciated in advance

E Tertak

It seems like the whole issue has resolved itself automatically, since I got other updates done automatically which I did not before. The only thing I did that maybe affected this was to stop/start the Windows Installer task in the task manager. Sad that Microsoft support team could not help and do  more for their users...it's their obligation when Windows does not work properly!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

    • Which program or application are you trying to install or re-install on the PC?

To isolate the issue you can perform a clean boot in Windows to check if that helps with this issue. A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your PC activity.

Note: Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality while in a clean boot environment, however, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after you have finished your troubleshooting.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hello Elemer, could you try the following for me?

Try to run an application one time with a full administrator access token.

    1. Locate the program icon or a shortcut in Windows Explorer.
    2. Right-click the program icon or shortcut, and then click Run as administrator.
    3. When the UAC message is displayed, do one of the following:

If you are logged on as a standard user, or if UAC is configured to always require credentials, enter the appropriate administrative credentials, and then click OK.

If you are logged on as an administrator and UAC is not configured to always require credentials, click Yes to start the application.
