Stretched game screen on Windows 10 laptop

To whom it may concern,

I play a pc game called 'Feeding Frenzy' on both my PC and toshiba laptop. When I set the game to full screen on my PC, the game maintains its 4:3 ratio as shown in the top photo. However when I do the same thing on my toshiba laptop, the game screen looks stretched (bottom photo) since it fills the whole screen. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Matthew

Thank you for the reply, Matthew.

Has the game ever worked in full screen resolution?

The image shows that it’s a mini game version which you have installed from third party website. Feeding frenzy 2 is a game which is available on Xbox console. Kindly follow the below methods and see if it helps.

Method 1: Switch to lower resolution.

    • From your desktop, right-click and select Display Settings.
    • Select the Advanced display settings option at the bottom of the menu.
    • Adjust your screen resolution to 1024 x 768 and click Apply.
    • Try playing your game again.

Method 2: Run your game in windowed mode.

If lower resolution doesn’t fix the issue, you can check on windowed mode. Under the main menu of the game, select Options, and un-check Full screen mode (In some games, Windowed Mode may appear in place of the Full screen option).

Method 3: Run in compatibility mode.

Compatibility mode is designed to run the older applications which are not compatible on Windows 10. To run the game in compatibility mode, you need to do the following:

    • Right click on the Feeding frenzy 2 software and select Properties.
    • Select Compatibility Tab.
    • Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list and click on OK.

If you have NVidia graphics card installed on your computer, you may follow method 4.

Method 4: NVidia Control Panel settings.

If you own both integrated and dedicated graphic, you may need to change few settings from Control Panel. Kindly follow the below steps and make and appropriate changes.

    • Go to Control Panel > NVidia Control Panel (View by Large Icons) > click on Manage 3D settings from the options under 3D settings.
    • Change Preferred graphics processor from Auto-select to High Performance NVidia processor > click on Apply > OK.

Also, you may try adjusting the desktop size and position under Display > click on No scaling and Apply.

If the issue doesn’t resolve by following the above methods, please provide us the website from where you downloaded the game for us to help you further.

    Hope it helps.

Method 1 did not work since the affected games (classic apps) only lets me enable or disable full screen (as shown in the screenshot).

Methods 2 and 3 were also unsuccessful since my laptop is already set on the recommended resolution and it states that I have the latest graphic driver when I check for the latest updates.

Note: I would like to play the affected games so that black bars are present when it is set on full screen

    Thanks for the response.

    1. This issue only occurs on my laptop. It affects any PC games that are meant to played on 4:3 screens
    2. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite S40-B
    3. The game was downloaded using a rar. file from the internet browser (i.e. it is not from Microsoft Store)

I will try the suggested methods

    Hello Matthew,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that it can be frustrating when you are unable to play the game full screen. Let’s narrow down the issue by following below suggestions. Kindly help me with the following questions.

    1. Does this issue persists on all applications or with this particular game?
    2. What is the make and model of PC?
    3. From where have you downloaded this particular game, is it from the Microsoft Store?

Method 1: Screen settings within the game.

I would suggest you to check with the settings within the game to adjust the screen resolution. To do that, go to the Options > Menu > Settings within the game (not all games have this option) > select Full-screen ON > click on OK.

Method 2: Check the Resolution and DPI settings on the computer. Make sure that you have the first item is set to 100% or whatever is recommended for your computer.

    Method 3: Update display drivers.

The issue might be due to older drivers with higher screen resolution as well. So, I suggest you to uninstall the display drivers from device manager and install the latest drivers available. To know more about how to update the drivers, kindly check the article on Update drivers in Windows 10.

    Hope it helps.
