Screen Goes Completely Black for 3-5 Seconds when Going Full-screen

I have recently just built a new PC and reinstalled windows twice. The first time it was installed, I did not have this problem with the exact same games I am playing right now, so I know that my physical PC is not the problem. In short, every time I want to go full-screen for some games or change a display setting, my screen goes completely black for a few seconds. The reason why I absolutely cannot stand thisis because I always have to tab out of my game onto Discord to reply to msgs or accept calls from people etc. , and when I mean always, I mean about every 3 minutes... In some cases this has lead to me losing my game just because I wasn't able to tab back in quick enough as I physically cannot do anything while the black screen is there. Please give any input you can as I'm not really not in the mood to reinstall windows for the 3rdtime... I have tried changing my radeon settings and changing my monitor refresh rate but I cannot do that as there is only a 60hz option and nothing else.

Hi TT. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 9 year Windows MVP and Independent Advisor, here to help you.

    1. Update the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS, network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

if this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

    1. Try another Screen Resolution in Settings > System > Display.
    2. Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    1. If nothing else helps you can run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version 1809 which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

If the card is within a year or purchase and/or still under warranty I'd contact AMD to help you resolve this, or replace the card with one that works properly.

Make sure you always try the latest found on their website as they may fix the problem if it's known to them.

It's important to also always have the latest drivers for everything else, too, especially the BIOS, chipset, Sound, USB, Network, etc.

Let me know if there's anything else.

First off, thank you so much for the time you took to reply to me - very grateful that you answered straight away. I tried everything up to rolling back the drivers and it kinda worked - let me explain... I tried rolling it back to every version that I could see, there was a default Microsoft one which caused problems with my game somehow making me not able to log into my account or even start the game, one from 2017, 2018 and 2019. Both 2018 and 2019 versions had the same problem as before but the 2017 version only had the black screen for 1 second which is still irritating but I can handle it. I don't really want to risk my whole motherboard in exchange for fixing an annoying bug either so, I guess this is the best I can get :/

Again, thank you so much for your time and thank you for (kind of) helping me fix this extremely annoying flaw in Radeon's software -_-
