I've been recording 4K video clips for almost 3 years using a Sony camcorder which saves to mp4 files.... editing on an HP Envy Windows 10 laptop (an Intel 4 core i7 CPU and 16 GB of RAM)….. and usually producing either HD1080 or 4k videos for viewing on vimeo.

My primary editing software is the 2012 version of Microsoft's Windows Movie Maker, saving to 4k videos using a custom quality profile.  I've not run into any issues and have over 1,000 videos on vimeo.

Using and editing 4k files is about the same as with HD1080 files.  Saving to 4K files makes for file sizes 4 times bigger than HD1080.... needing appropriately more local disc and online storage space, along with uploading time.

    Hi goodman

For 4K video encoding, the following would be a good guideline for a minimum requirement of spec for your PC

    Quad core i7 Processor

8GB Graphics card that must support CUDA

    16GB Fast RAM (min 1600Mhz)

SSD Storage with plenty of spare space

    Hello, Mr. Goodman,

    The software requires this:

    System Requirements

Works on Windows 10, XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1

    Works on 64 bit Windows

Mac OS X 10.5 or above

iPhone/iPad version runs on iOS 6.0 or higher

Android version runs on 2.3.3 or higher

    Video editing requires more horsepower.

i5/7 CPUs run at top speed. Without the fastest cpu, editing would be excruciatingly slow.

Minimum of 4GB RAM but the more RAM the faster you go.

    Hard drive storage - Minimum 500 - Recommended 2TB

    Monitor - Recommended 27" monitor

HP Z1 series is suitable for Video Editing.
