how to remove name of old wifi from my network list

Hi

I replaced my router with a new router - however the name of the old router is still showing when i click the bottom right Internet Access Icon in Windows (it also appears on my Android mobile?! ... I have tried:

Settings> Networks & Internet> WiFi> Manage Known Networks to try to FORGET that old network name - but it does not appear there. But it appears when I click the bottom right Internet Access Icon. I have also tried to reset using:

Settings> Networks & Internet> Status> Network rest

That did not work.

When you try to connect to this old name and enter its (old) password - I get Unable to connect to this network.

The physical device (the old router, was a NETGEAR router, and has been removed for over a YEAR now!!!)

The new router is custom made for my new ISP (it's a SAGEMCOM brand).

The old name appears with an 'excellent!!' signal strength indicator, even though the device DOES NOT EXIST!!!!

Googled many times - nothing on this problem - all recommend the Windows FORGET approach.

Anyway - what's really strange is that this old network name appears on any device (PC, mobiles, my air-conditioner etc) when you go to the Wi-Fi settings to select a Wi-Fi device to connect to.

So - its obvious - this old device name is stored somewhere that is accessible to more than just Windows 10.

While I can ignore the old name on any device and connect to the name of the new Wi-Fi router - it is very frustrating that I can not get rid/remove the old name.

Has anyone solved this problem.....

    Hi ajs007.

    Check this guide https://kb.netgear.com/29889/How-to-delete-a-wi...

To delete a wireless network profile in Windows 10:

Click the Network icon on the lower right corner of your screen.

    Click Network settings.

    Click Manage Wi-Fi settings.

Under Manage known networks, click the network you want to delete.

Click Forget. The wireless network profile is deleted.

Note: You can also type netsh wlan show profiles in the Command Prompt to manage and delete wireless network profiles.

    Right click Start>Run

Type in regedit and press Enter.

Navigate to the following Path or Enter in the address bar.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles

Take a screenshot and post in the next reply.

Settings> Networks & Internet> WiFi> Manage Known Networks to try to FORGET

Which was the first thing I tried....

    Did not work...

    Thanks for the reply...  :-)

    Hi Sumit

I have asked my neighbours and they do not use the same Wi-Fi router name.

So I still have an unsolved problem of a non-existent old Wi-Fi Router name appearing on any device

    (4x mobiles iOS & Android, 3xPC Windows10 + air-conditioner wi-fi controller)...

The big question is where is this name stored.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 2-Year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

Sure it isn't a neighbor who has the same Router? If it appears everywhere, I think there is a router which is ON, which can be from your neighborhood.
