Generic USB Hub Device Missing

I've been having issues with my USB ports and thought it may have been related to an issue I've had for some time now. This issue shows up as 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)' in the device manager. In an effort to resolve this problem, I've attempted a few fixes found online. I have tried hardware troubleshooting, power plan editing, and turning off fast startup, all with no results. Some fixes online involve a device called 'Generic USB Hub', but that device does not appear in my device manager. Is there a reason it isn't appearing or does it need to be installed? If it needs to be installed, how would I go about doing that?

    Hi,

My best guess would be to try the newer Chipset Driver, and possibly the Serial I\O Driver at Acer's website for your machine... https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7571?b=1

Sometimes manufacturer's tweak the drivers to suit their machines more so than the generic Intel drivers..

Another option that might work would be to go to Intel.com and select Support... Drivers + Downloads...

There is an option to Automatically detect drivers for Intel hardware... This will probably require you to install a program from Intel.

For some reason I am not finding any specific drivers for the USB Controllers... I did see some for other manufacturer's, but not your's... That has something to do with Windows 10 and everything needed supposedly being available from Windows Update..

Windows is unable to identify your device, but maybe Intel can if it comes to that..

    Sorry for the late response.

I've already tried uninstalling and restarting with no luck.

How would I go about finding out whether I have two controllers?
