Hi,

I have just built a new PC clean install of Windows, everything is working fine apart from when I shutdown there is an error pops up “Express.exe” “Application Error” “The Instruction At----" “Reference Memory At---” “The Memory Could Not Be Read” It stalls on this and I have to confirm “OK” for it to shutdown, it seems to happen on every shutdown, otherwise the PC has no other errors and performs fine, any ideas?

PC - brief spec: CPU- AMD Ryzen 2700X, Motherboard - ASUS PRIME X370-A, Storage - Samsung EVO 970 M.2, GPU - NVIDIA GTX 1050TI, Memory – 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR 4, PSU – Thermaltake 750watt, OS – Windows 10 Pro.

Best regards

Simon

Hi Simon, I had the same problem. I removed the software for my Garmin navigation thingy, it has an express.exe.  Solved the problem.

HI SimonReynolds1 ... try running a memory check

To do this at search type memory and click the memory diagnostics.

You will need to run it when your PC does not have windows loaded.

Also this maybe an issue with a system file being corrupt.

You can try a couple things.

Right click your start button and select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.

In Command prompt type sfc /scannow and press enter.

    Restart the computer.

If that doesn't work then try this,

Right click your start button and select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.

In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands.

Press Enter key after each command:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Important: When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions.

To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.

    Restart your computer.

    Hi Sarah,

I tried your fix  but it did not cure the issue, I have no problems when the PC is running it's just every time I shut it down I am prompted with "Express.Exe - Application Error" on the Windows blue closing screen and I have to click OK to complete the shut down. I don't seem to be able to find anyone else on the net having a similar issue.

    Best regards

    Simon

    Hi Dave,

How would I know? I haven't intentionally installed it, had a quick search on my system and it didn't bring anything up.

    Cheers
