What Is Akamai Netsession? Is it Safe to have in my pc?

I have this fishy software (Akamai Netsession) in my laptop that has Windows 10 Home. I'm worried and want to know is it safe or should I remove it?

It feels like it is a virus.

    NO!

    It is not a virus. Akamai Netsession helps you in increasing the download speed fetched from the servers. In fact, there are certain softwares and games which compulsorily need Akamai Netsession client interface to proceed the download.
