I have an external hard drive which I want to use for backups. After formatting the drive I find that iCloud has taken up residence without permission. The drive is now not recognised when I try to run chkdsk to find a bad sector found by the program I use for backup and cloning. When I try top run chkdsk I get the message that direct access is not possible. How do I get rid of iCloud to regain control of the drive?

Hi Phil, I'm Graeme, an independent adviser here to help.

To remove iCloud, you can follow the below steps:

    • Click Start and type "Apps & Features".
    • Select the first result.
    • In the list, find iCloud, then select it and choose Uninstall.

After it runs through the necessary steps, iCloud should be uninstalled. If it's not, please let me know and I'll provide additional options! Thanks!

    Hi Graeme

Thanks for your advice. Problem solved. iCloud rode in uninvited on the back of another Apple update.

    Regards, phil
