Do I need to wipe the computer clean to get around this? And if so, will my Windows 7 software get wiped out?
Take the PC to a computer repair shop. They will fix the problem in less than five minutes.

I was given a donated laptop computer loaded with Windows 7 software. I am trying to download and install software and the computer is asking me for the ADMIN password. I don't have any ADMIN password. I tried to restart the computer and go into SAFE mode to reset the ADMIN password, but when I restart and hit the F8 key repeatedly, it does not offer me the safe mode screen. When I try to go in thru the RUN menu, it will not allow me to RUNCONFIG. It is asking me for the ADMIN password.
Do I need to wipe the computer clean to get around this? And if so, will my Windows 7 software get wiped out?
Help! Thank you!

In that case, reinstall the operating system yourself:

"If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-installWindows."
