Windows 10 wont boot - works in safe mode

So since my son had my laptop it will not longer boot... (it will boot into safe mode ok)

1)  uninstalled the latest windows update and also two games he had installed before it stopped working.

  1. Run chkdsk and SFC (SFC said it fixed some files)

3)  Reset PC from troubleshooting bootup - keep files option

  1. Run msconfig - selected minimal startup

Error message when it tries to fix automtically is 0x32 in the SrtTrail.txt file

Other error message I have had on bootup after leaving it some considerable time is DPC Watchdog violation - I have tried to update firmware and driver for the SSD drive but the only software I can find from intel has to be installed - it will not install via safe mode - ive tried the windows installer reg key to allow the installer service to run but I still get an error so I cannot install the Intel Utility to upgrade firmware and driver.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Yes it was on windows 8 - but like i say i made a clean install of 10 and been running it fine for a few years or whenever 10 first came out.  I have tried to use origin drivers from PCSpecialist - some work some dont - other than the wireless drivers none are Win 10 compliant

    Thanks,

I have already tried to a reset and keep files which didnt work.  Unfortunately system restore was turned off so I cannot use this option.  Already tried safe mode and normal mode numerous times.

Looks like only a clean install will do - but I hate to be defeated....

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi dlarge

My name is Sarah Kong and I am an independent adviser that is here to try and help you with your issue.

Unfortunately it sounds like the current image is beyond repair due to the fact that a reset did not fix it and you are getting the srttrial error.

I would highly recommend at this point to do a fresh clean install.

To do that see the link below by Greg.

while within safe mode check that fast startup is disabled (power options>change settings which are not available) & that ‘use my information to automatically sign in after an update’ (under settings>accounts).

    Hi dlarge,

I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

    A. Try to boot into safe mode

Power ON your computer and as Windows / manufacturer's Logo appears, Power OFF - Repeat 3 times

Now your computer will go into Advanced Recovery Environment

Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart

Press 4 or F4 to enable Safe Mode (5 or F5 to enable Safe Mode with Networking)

Log in once Windows starts in safe mode

See whether you able to login. If yes, come out of this and start normally.

If you are not able to boot like above, You will need to boot through a Bootable USB drive. You will need to create this on another computer which is working - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create...

How to Boot from a USB Flash Drive in Windows 10 - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/21756-boot-...

    B. Another option when you are in Advanced Options in previous step is to choose (Note - You won't lose any files in this step)

    1. System Restore - This will restore your system to a point when things were working fine.

    OR

    1. Startup Repair - Startup Repair upgrade fixes all Windows errors and retains all files, applications and settings.

    C. Penultimate option could be Reset this PC.

In Step A > Troubleshoot > Reset this PC - Keep my files and Remove everything. Choose this carefully as most likely you would like to keep your files.

All apps will be removed and windows will be reinstalled.

    D. Last option could be a clean Install. This is the best method to perform a clean install of Windows 10. (If you want to rescue your files, there is a section Rescue Files when Windows Won't Start)
