Hi Dennis. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 9 year Windows MVP and Independent Advisor, here to help you.

Power up the PC while pressing the F12 key to see if you can get to DIagnostics to run all tests, report back results.

Enter the Dell UEFI/BIOS Setup by pressing F1 or F2 at power up, see if the hard drive is detected. If not you'll need to try to get it detected by reseating it, changing cable, or else replace the hard drive.

    See this Dell bulletin: https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/s...

If the hard drive is failing I'd replace it with an SSD which is the best upgrade you can give your PC - lightning fast, better than a new higher end PC without one.

Follow the included instructions or a video you find for your model via Google to swap it in and do this Clean Install which should get you past all difficulties as it has hundreds of thousands of others who have followed the steps in this link and never come back to report another problem: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Skip the Product Key during install and it will reactivate with the Product Key embedded by Dell at factory.

If within a year of purchase you also have a full repair, replacement and support warranty from Dell: https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/e...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

If you receive a popup asking if this solved your problem please ignore it, as it will remove my ability to help you and others may also not help. Please wait until after the issue is resolved to answer the popup or mark your question answered to help others.

    1. I quit the diagnostic , powered off the computer, to remove External Hard Drive.
    2. Then tried to power on normally but failed to boot system.
    3. I then pressed the Back button + the front power Button to Boot and it worked.
    4. Am now running the Diagnostic again ... been running for the last Hour

What buttons are you using and for what?

You removed the external drive and Windows will start. Then exaclty what happens that's different than normal?
