I understand how it could be when the feature doesn’t work as it is supposed to. We will look in to this for you.
Generally, the Windows Update fails when there is a system file corruption or the services responsible for updates are not working properly.
I suggest you to follow the steps from the article Fix Windows Update issues and check if that helps in resolving the issue.
Note: The last step in the above article talks about doing a clean installation, there might be a risk of data loss if you do a clean installation. You may take a backup of the data before performing the steps.
