    Hello JohnMcCombe

Thank you for participating in the Microsoft Community, My name is Miguel T. I'm an independent Advisor

Open Windows Settings > Update & Security > Recovery Advanced Startup and click on Restart now.

    This feature lets you:

    * Boot Windows from a device or disk (such as a USB drive or DVD).

    * Change your PC’s Firmware Settings.

    * Configure Windows Startup Settings.

    * Restore Windows from a System Image.

When you click on Restart Now, it will reboot your PC, and offer you all these Advanced Options. Click, and wait till you get these options. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options. This screen offers further options which include System restore, Startup repair, Go back to the previous version, Command Prompt, System Image Recovery, and UEFI Firmware Settings.

Hi John, please explain this in more detail . . .

Are you trying to boot from another drive, or do you have a dual boot setup on your PC

Generally to change the boot sequence that is done in BIOS, not from inside Windows - you need to boot into BIOS from the manufacturers logo screen on startup . . .

Or are you trying to change the order of startup items inside Windows?

    Hi. JohnMcCombe

    I hope to help.

If you have your computer turned on, restart it, once you start to hold down F8 or F11. If you enter the safe mode with the F8 key, restart it again. And when restarting press the F11 key to enter.

Another way to change the boot start is to turn on the computer press the keys or F2, to access the BIOS.

However, Microsoft incorporated a recovery system in Windows 10 that allows us to change this in another way. To do this, we will start Windows 10 as we usually do and once we are in front of our desktop we will open the Windows 10 Configuration page.

Once there, we navigate through the options Update and security> Recovery and look for the Advanced Start option.

This option allows you to start Windows from a device or disk, such as a USB or DVD drive, change the firmware settings of the PC, the Windows startup configuration or even restore Windows from a system image.

If we click on the button Restart now, the computer will restart and will show us a menu in which we have to go to Solve problems> Advanced options. Among these options, we have to choose UEFI Firmware Setting or UEFI Firmware Configuration, which will restart the computer again and it will take us to the firmware configuration.

The Windows 10 File Explorer will have a dark mode

There we will have to go to the Start or Boot tab, which will be where we find the starting priority of our team. By default, there will be a hard disk, but if we display the options we will also find the possibility of indicating the boot order that we want. We can indicate that you start the CD, DVD, USB drive first ... To change from one option to another, just use the arrow keys, choose the option you want and press the Save and Exit option.

Now, the next time we restart the computer, the boot order that we have configured in our BIOS or UEFI will be followed, something useful when we need to start the computer from a DVD or USB drive that contains Windows 10 installation files or if we have installed the operating system on a secondary hard drive.

This is done in the BIOS or EFI, whichever one your computer has.
