If you want to install Windows to the drive you need to have a UEFI BIOS, boot the media as a UEFI device, delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to reset the formatting, then create your partitions and install Windows to the first large partition (after the small System partitions it will create). This will format GPT.
If you only want to use the drive for data then you don't have to have a UEFI system, just open Disk Management, find the drive on the drive map below, right click on the Disk Number in box on left side, choose Convert to GPT.
Then right click on the empty area to right to Create and format a new GPT partition as shown here: https://www.pcworld.com/article/248980/how-to-p...
This is a destructive process so you need to back up your files from the drive first.
