Microsoft Launcher

I have a Moto G5 Plus smartphone running Android 7.0.  My phone is mainly set up as an Android phone supporting Google Assistant, Google Home, and other apps from the Google Play Store, including such Microsoft apps as OneDrive, OneNote, Excel, and Word.

I would like to try the Microsoft Launcher, but I'm worried about what will happen to my existing app setup on my phone if I install the Microsoft Launcher.  That is, will I lose my existing setup and have to redo it completely if I want to switch back to it after installing Microsoft Launcher?  Will I be able to switch back and forth between my existing setup and the Microsoft Launcher setup?

I've long been thinking it would be nice to set up an Android phone with mostly Microsoft apps and have a pseudo Windows phone.  However, I definitely don't want to lose Google Assistant, which I consider to be superior to Cortana and other apps such as Google Home and WeMo.

It sure is horses for courses and I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with me that Microsoft Launcher is mainly bloatware.

However, maybe your missing my point. Microsoft directed me to download launcher to help me with transferring files to my phone using bluetooth. No one mentioned that it would radically alter the look and how my phone operates with all the overlays etc. I assumed, at the time, that it was a piece of software that helped my laptop communicate with my phone.

Maybe it would have solved my bluetooth issue, but I needed only that and not all the crapware.

No problems deleting it Jersey. I mentioned in my first post 2 ways to go as I note from other threads some have had a problem. I should add that now it is deleted, my phone is not entirely back to how it was and how I want it, and I still get some popups I have never seen before. I will clean it up though as obviously Microsoft think I have nothing better to do.

Cortana? Total waist of time. Fortunately I found a way to disable it in the early days of Windows 10.

Been using Launcher for a long time now. No "bloatware". No problem whatsoever getting to the complete apps list and the app settings list. Do it ALL the time.

So everyone has an opinion and I respect everyone's personal views. When I decided to make the "jump" to Android (because it was time for an upgrade and Windows Phone was not going to live on) I chose the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The specs were great and I figured it would be an easy switch. Well, it was not an easy switch and initially, I was very frustrated until I read about Microsoft Launcher.

I installed Launcher and it immediately brought back some familiarity with Windows Phone. The  “continue on PC” feature is huge  (in my opinion) as well as the ability to customize what happens. It definitely brings back some Windows Phone familiarity and I like that.

It is an app and although I have no desire to get rid of it I am confident that if you did not like it you can uninstall it easily. As for using Google Assistant, it is something you will have to try. I like Cortana (personal choice) but if you like the other then you just need to try it to see if it all works as you want it to.

Anyone reading this be careful. Microsoft Launcher will totally change the appearance of your phone and fill it with, what is in my opinion, bloatware/crapware. Even if you deny it all permissions after instal. You may even have a problem finding application manager once installed to get rid of it. In that case, go to recently used apps (the section where you can swipe the pages away) and uninstal from there. Or go to the Play Store - if you can find it, will be there somewhere but not in the same place as before

    • search for Microsoft launcher and uninstal.

I was having a problem sending files from my phone to my laptop via bluetooth. Both devices worked fine with bluetooth headphones etc. A Microsoft Adviser here advised to first go to settings (Windows 10 Pro btw), Chose phone and then link for Android phone. This led to me downloading the Launcher on my phone. No mention that I would get all the crapware. Going to stick with a usb cable. Easier and no stress.

    Hello Jersey,

Microsoft Launcher app let's you personalize your Android device to match your style with wallpapers, theme colors, icon packs and more. Once you installed Microsoft Launcher app, you may need to set up a new personalization again depending on your preference. If you uninstalled the app, you will be completely back to the default setup before you installed it. If your phone has a settings for setting a default launcher, you may be able to switch between different launchers whenever you like it. Google Assistant, Google Home and other apps will still work as it is.

Should have any other questions, fee free to ask.

Thanks for the info.  I'll boost my courage and give the Microsoft Launcher a whirl when I have a moment.
