Hi

After my last shutdown and update, my pin number no longer works to access my laptop.  It gives a message box asking to confirm my windows password before i can continue.  It wont accept my passord and will not allow me to enter a new one. This gives another message box to check password and try again.

    Hi LesleyKirk

My name is Sarah Kong and I am an independent adviser that is here to try and help you with your issue.

Are you currently unable to login to your machine at all?

If so try and get to safe mode.

To do that at the login screen hold the shift button and then click restart.

That will take you to recovery.

You want to go to advanced and startup settings.

    Choose Safe Mode.

    Login using your password.

    Try the following...

To repair your PIN & picture password:

Open File Explorer and browse to this location:

    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

    Delete everything within that folder

FYI if you can't see the AppData folder make sure in file explorer you go to the view tab and options - change folder and search options - view and select 'show hidden files, folders, and drives.

Make sure to do this as Administrator logged in.

Also, just keep clicking Continue if you get the message "You don't currently have permissions for this folder"

If you can't get past that screen then right click the NGC folder and go to properties and click the Security tab.

    Click Advanced.

Click Change beside Owner and type in Administrators and click OK.

Now try emptying the NGC folder again, once done close all the windows.

    Go to Settings-> Accounts->Sign-in Options

Click Add a PIN again and set your PIN

    Try again.

If that doesn't work try creating a new account profile.

Hi Lesley, I’m Virginia an independent advisor.

If the password isn’t being accepted make sure caps lock isn’t turned on, or try the onscreen keyboard to rule out a keyboard malfunction.

If you still cannot access the PC.

You could try another restart to see if that fixes the problem.

Are you using a local account or Microsoft account to log in?
