If you find the startup & the program isn't listed then this may indicate you have a virus,

    You can also uninstall via:

press the Windows key + R at the same time and then type 'appwiz.cpl'. Then find PowerReg Scheduler in the list of installed programs and uninstall this application.

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

Sorry but all the replies, both from you and another  have   been coming in one after the other.    Time Lady  there is no criticism on your services.  You see I've been "snagged" into Try this for Free, or  Buy This Now...and this usually pops up after playing a game for two hours, or in case of downloads, after I've spent   precious time downloading only to realize  I am blocked from going  further until I pay a fee..  And of  course there are  these   four or five times a week scam  telephone calls "from Microsoft" telling me that I a) owe money  or b) my  computer is unsecure.

No problem with you at all. :) But I am in the middle of an important   project and the last thing I need is a  puter  hangup.

I believe I have solved the issue.  The problem  is with Google.  I use EDGE for  browsing, but because of it's tendency  to lock my searches to  advertising I am bothered by  adverts.  Example: I am currently  preparing for a court case involving Quebec  sewerage disposal systems  If I search with  BING/Edge I end up  with  adverts for  sewer cleaning, construction. etc.   So I use Google which does not seem to be so subject site specific.   My  personal email for over 25 years = Google.com.    So that sums up my involvement with google.

After you email I received  another ad from  Softronic.s  For the first time , in fine print, I noticed the accurate name is en.softronic.com.  I googlesd it  number    ways, and finally  googled < en.softronic.com> and was taken in Google settings.  I had never bothered with   google settings. The page which opened up was  "Notifications" and on it are two  categories: <Block Section> which had en.softronics, com as allowed and in the Allow Section., also  allowed.  I deleted both entries.

    Here's he procedure

    From  Google Main Page,

click on  three dots in upper right corner.

    click on Settings

Scroll down to bottom of page to <advanced>

This brings  to next page: Privacy Security

Scroll down to and click on  Content Settings

This brings to page with many selections

Click on Notifications...not on  ADs <-- this is a different issue.

Clicking on Notifications will take you  to the site where a SITE can be added or blocked..

This is where I found en.softonic.com.

I suspect I know how I got into the  mess.  A month ago I download a  great video player software on another puter. Two days ago I  thought I had  downloaded it from the same site: I now realize I did not. Softronic is a legit website. en.softonic is the problem.   I conclude that   copy-cat  software  has an embedded way to  affect the  settings in Google.   And of course, due to syncing, it has infiltrated all my devices.

Today was the   first  time I had bothered with Google settings. I apologize for  all the work you-all have put in  trying to answer me.   However, perhaps there IS some good to be gained.  It seems to me that en.softronics.com has figured out a way to embed  some command in its  download  which is able to modify settings in Google.  Has it done the same in Bing or  Edge?  ROFL - I'm too tired to find our right now.

Perhaps  windows 10 may wish to  include something in windows defender to stop this from happening.

Best wishes for involvement (and patience)_

    Mais.

Thank you for talking the time to write up your experience!! After using Malwarebytes to scan and locate what appears to be the file, I delved further into google chrome as you suggest and in settings/Privacy and security/notifications I found the bugger en.softonic.com as 'allowed". It is no longer "allowed" or even on my system. I will now delete the file I also found under users on my file system and I hope be rid of it.

I'm just now reading this thread here...

In addition to what you already discovered (https://blog.malwarebytes.com/security-world/technology/2019/01/browser-push-notifications-feature-asking-abused/):

Get a good ad blocker. Tracking blockers help too.

I use the free browser extensions uBlock Origin and Ghostery.

    Block 3rd party cookies etc...

Glad to hear you managed to discover the solution.

I often receive the same scams purporting to be from Microsoft/British Telecom/My ISP/Windows support, I either tell them I have a Mac or in the case of ISP I tell them I use my cellular connection.

In the case of Revo there is a totally free version & a trial of the paid version which will require payment after the trial, these are seperate downloads on the site. We don’t receive any money from these programs; we’re just fellow users like yourself chosen to assist as Independent Advisors where Other users can hopefully receive a quicker reply & resolution than on the community forum - we have no connection to Microsoft & are not affiliated to them.

As you downloaded the second version from a suspect site you might wish to scan with those anti virus/malware programs - I use these & are 100% free, Malwarebytes does have a paid version & this gives you real-time detection but it isn’t required to manually run a scan, it will offer you a free trial of the premium so you can skip this program if you wish.

I hope I helped in some way.

May I ask whether you have tried the suggestion? What was the outcome?

You asked how to remove softonic & I gave you an answer on how to do that.

Follow up to previous reply re: softonic

The  site you referred me to  requires  a payment. Since I am already  paying for multiple Windows 10 Office Pro  installations and since  this softonic  thing can truly  clutter bandwidth and  crap-up  windows 10 , I  addressed my enquiry  to Microsoft. Since you identify yourself as  Independent advisor  I concluded  you  are a 3rd party motivated, likely for profit,  by suggesting solutions for a fee.
