wlanext in task manager is using over 50% on the cpu. i just started having this issue a day ago for what seems like no reason. it sounds like wlanext is used for only wifi but i have never used wifi or plan to on this computer. i always have task manager open but i have never seen wlanext befor why would it be using half my cpu?

thank you Ganesh Gandhi for relying, i tried what you suggested both with cmd and through another way but since i don't like wifi i had no wireless interface to show on them only the wired one. i tried disabling the wired connection driver and it did temporarily stop using so much cpu % but turning it on went right back. in my reply to Irisdiel i said i fixed it (for the time being at least) i will add it here.

"thank you Irisdiel for responding i tried the safety scanner but it didn't show any problems, i however moved the wlanext from its folder and placed it into another one (so it just wouldn't be called) that seemed to fix it. now i'm running at 1% cpu usage idling."

    Hi,

I am Ganesh Gandhi, an Independent Advisor and Office Insider for Android. I am here to work with you on this problem.

Wlanext.exe is an important part of Windows,

    Refer here:

    https://www.shouldiblockit.com/wlanext.exe-5.aspx

    1. You can go to Network settings and disable and then enable the adapter to stop it using over 50% on the cpu.
    2. Or from a cmd prompt with admin privileges:

(Type in cmd to search for Command Prompt. Press ctrl + shift + enter to launch Command Prompt as administrator.)

    To Disable adapter:

netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection" Disable

(store this command in a batch file namely wioff.bat in cmd folder and run by typing 'wioff')

    To Enable adapter:

netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection" Enable

(store this command in a batch file namely winon.bat in cmd folder and run by typing 'wion')

Hello robbyUP, my name is Irisdiel and I am an independent advisor.

I suggest following the instructions down below.

-Run the Microsoft Safety Scanner in full scan mode, and remove all the threats that get detected by it and see if the issue persists.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us...

You should also try the following to lessen your CPU usage:

Adjust your Windows 10 for the best performance

-Right click on “Computer” icon and select “Properties.”

    -Select “Advanced System settings.”

    -Go to the “System properties.”

    -Select “Settings”

-Choose “Adjust for best performance” and “Apply.”

-Click “OK” and Restart your computer.

You could control your CPU usage in the following steps:

    Press. ...

    -Click the Processes tab. ...

    -Click the "CPU" column. ...

-Find the processes that are accounting for the majority of your CPU usage. ...

-Note the "Image name" of the processes. ...

-Select the offending program and click End Process. ...

-Determine how to proceed with troubleshooting the misbehaving program.

    Hope this helps!

    Thank you and good luck,

    Regards- Irisdiel H.
