How do I get Windows 10 (64) to recognize a Microtek 4800 scanner? Old but still works well. Microtek has not updated drivers for years.

How do I get Windows 10 (64) to recognize an old but fully functioning Microtek ScanMaker 4800? Microtek has not and will not update drivers. Is there a way or a work-around? It is as if both are loaded, but Windows 10 will not recognize the scanner.

Can I work around the lack of updated driver?

Unfortunately not. Only Microtek has the proprietary knowledge of its scanners needed to write a driver. That knowledge is also Microtek's intellectual property that one else has the right to use.

With nothing to lose, if the 4800 has a more recent successor with a driver for Windows 10 or even Win8 or Win7, you could give it a shot.

One thing I would advise against is a driver that you obtain from a third party on the internet. It won't be from Microtek so you won't know what you're really getting.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have been to that Microtek site in the outdated scanners. The highest download is for Windows XP. I have downloaded that and have used it, but Windows 10 (64) does not recognize that driver.

I wish I could still use my old HP LaserJet 6L printer. It never failed me.

Only Microtek can write drivers for its hardware, so if Microtek doesn't have a driver that Windows 10 can use, you can't use the scanner on Windows 10. You can find out here.

The same is true for all types of hardware.
