Cannot install a downloaded .exe file

I have a bizarre situation where I download a program from a website and the setup .exe file appears correctly in the Download folder.  When I double-click the .exe file to install it, it disappears from the Download folder.  Is there an issue with my Windows 10 registry?   I don't know how this happened.

    Dear Time Lady,

I discovered that my problem was that I was running my Malwarebytes program simultaneously with Avast anti-virus as I was told by How-To-Geek.  I disabled my Malwarebytes operating real-time, and my problem went away.

It sounds like your anti virus software is deleting it.

Try this: right click on the .exe file & choose to unblock it - sometimes files are so new they're caught as potentially suspicious.

    Hello Donald,

    Nice.

In my opinion, you should better use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and uninstall Avast.

Please let me know if you have any further questions. If you have a moment, it would be greatly appreciated if you would rate my assistance in handling your ticket and have a great day!

    Dear DaveM121,

I use Avast anti-virus software and I went to the Virus Chest and it said that it was empty.  I might add that I am experiencing the same behavior on at least 2 different- sourced downloaded files and I really think that the same thing would occur for ANY downloaded .exe file.

    Best, DonB

    Hi DONALD

This behavior indicates a problem with the downloaded file - possible your security software is seeing malware in that file and deleting it to protect your system, however, that would usually be accompanied by a popup notice indicating this . . .

Do you use Defender or some 3rd party security suite?

Go to the Virus chest or notification section, to see if your security software has actually deleted that file you have downloaded . . .
