    Hi JoanMillett

My name is Sarah Kong and I am an independent adviser that is here to try and help you with your issue.

What is the make and model of your PC and I can look it up for you.

Also you can right click on start and go to device manager and then audio and see what audio devices are listed.

    Hi Joann,

Assuming you have installed sound drivers for your device,
In a run dialog box, type in the following command.

    control mmsys.cpl sounds

Go to the Recording tab. If there is a device ready to get sound, your laptop has a built in microphone.

You know, you could always lookup that model on the manufacturer's website, or check the documents that came with the computer, or look at the user manual.

    You can also do this:

Control Panel > Speech Recognition > Setup Microphone

If it works, you have a microphone.

    Hi Joan

Nearly every laptop has a built in Microphone

Do you see a tiny hole or holes beside the webcam at the top of your screen?

If you are having a problem with your Microphone

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Update and Security - Troubleshoot

    Run the Recording Audio Troubleshooter

If that does not resolve any problem you are having, what is the Make and exact Model No. of your laptop - that will be printed on the underneath casing of your laptop . . .
