Inline mic of headphones not working

Anonymous

Hello,

I have I5 6402p processor and 8gb ddr4 2133mhz ram and motherboard Gigabyte GA H110m DS2 CF.

My headphones work fine on the pc but the inline microphone does not work with the pc due to some reason. Earlier I had USB headphones with mic and they worked fine with the mic but the inline mic does not work.

I have tried updating my audio driver which is Realtek 6.0.1.8648 and that's the latest version of driver I could find on gigabyte website. I have tried going to sound control panel and enabling the hidden recording device and that does not work either.

I have tried the goto device manager uninstall the Realtek driver then detect changes and that does not work either.

The mic works fine on call on the phone but not on pc. Please send help.

Also, I am using Windows 10 pro 17134.648

Because it shows green in your image, I thought that Windows may be detecting the mic .

I assume you are using your machines front panel headphone output and getting audio out, which indicates you have connected

the front panel audio cable to the motherboard.

Desktop PC's generally have separate mic and headphone in\output sockets (mono for mic and stereo for speaker), and the front panel

sockets are where a headset\headphone is most commonly connected, but laptops\phones tend to have a single socket combining the two,

which probably explains why the  headset is working on your phone and not on the PC.

It's not likely, but if your machine does have a front panel headphone socket that acts the same as the phone socket

(which would make it a headset socket) I believe selecting the 'tie up' option in  Realtek HD Audio Manager should fix the problem.

I have seen adapters that convert separate mic and headphone jacks to a single jack for laptop. I don't know if there

is an adapter that goes from single to dual jack, but would guess they would be available.

Its a single jack and the microphone does not get detected and I have the mic recording volume for all the devices at 100% still no sound.

It detects my headphones as speakers so I think buying an external sound card should fix this problem but what is wrong with my motherboard that's causing this issue? I had the motherboard replaced recently too so it's not that it's defective.

    Hi Bhavesh

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

I noticed you are still on Windows 10 1803. I would try upgrading to Windows 10 1809 to see if it works under that release.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wik...

If that does not work, try installing an older version of the driver.

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

Expand Sound, video and game controllers

    Right click your audio adapter

    Click Properties

    Click the Driver tab

    Click uninstall

Download, extract then install the following:

I noticed there is a BIOS Update from April 2018. If you haven't already applied it, I would do so:

Well, the problem is there since I bought this pc so I don't think windows installation should be a problem here so the above options other than the reinstall or rollback options I have tried.

Hi Bhavesh. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP here to help you.

I'll give you everything possible to try for headset problems so at least something will work. If you need help performing any steps I am standing by here to help:

First try the steps here: https://www.windowscentral.com/setting-your-hea...

Go to Settings > Devices > Autoplay to look for the device and change the default behavior in it's Dropdown Menu.

Right click Volume icon in System Tray at right end of task bar, Open Sounds Settings, in dropdown menus at top make sure Headphones are selected and Connected for both Playback and Recording Default Devices.

If not again right click Volume icon in System Tray to choose Troubleshoot sound problems.

Also try the Hardware Troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Go to the Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button, choose Sound controller device, on Driver tab choose Roll back or Uninstall, restart PC using keyboard to Ctrl Alt Del, on blue screen tab to Power Icon in bottom right, press Enter, arrow down to Restart, press Enter to restart to reinstall the driver.

Do the same for the headset device and/or it's microphone.

Update the Sound driver from the PC or Device maker's Support downloads web page. While there also check that the Chipset, BIOS, Display, USB, Network and all other drivers are the most current.

Sometimes it helps to unpair or disconnect all other Bluetooth devices from the PC in Bluetooth settings, then try again to connect the headset.

If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them:

    http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If nothing else helps you can run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

But remember that in Windows 10 everything depends upon the quality of the install, and Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won't even run because they'd expect endless issues. Consider now or later doing the Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible install that will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

There is also an automated Fresh Start that reinstalls WIndows while shedding corrupting factory bloatware, saves your files, but doesn't clear the drive to get it cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
