Windows 10 Update NOT COMPATIBLE with HP Envy 5660 Printer/Scanner

Recently updated Windows 10 to my Pavilion Laptop.  Envy 5660 printer would no longer print from printer even though it recognized the printer was online.  Was able to print from other iPhone and Mac devices.  Spent over 3 hours with Microsoft rep on phone and went through all of the steps recommended on previous threads.  Finally, they recommended I RESTORE my settings to settings from week ago.  Problem SOLVED,  They said apparently the update was not compatible with the Envy 5660 printer.  Kudos for patience and persistence of Microsoft rep.

The premise of your question is not correct. Microsoft doesn't decide whether or not Windows 10 will be compatible with your printer. Microsoft has no ability to do that. Rather, HP decides whether or not your printer will be compatible with Windows 10.

HP publishes a Windows 10 driver for your printer, which you can find here. That means HP does, in fact, support your printer on Windows 10, or as you might put it, your printer is compatible.

Since I posted, I have been getting replies that I said the Envy 5660 was not compatible with Windows 10, also get "nailed" for saying Microsoft rep (after spending 3-4 hours working with them over the phone and on my computer) is not a Microsoft rep but a 3rd party that Microsoft hires.  The reply indicated that these people do not know what they are doing and only read a set script.  GOT IT.  This is my last reply.  Here is what happened and why I am HAPPY with end result.

    1.  Have had HP Envy 5660 printer/scanner for over 3 years and it has worked great.  It even works with Windows 10, so I know it was COMPATIBLE.

    2.  2 days ago, I downloaded the latest Windows 10 update.  That is when the Envy 5660 would no longer work.  My computer recognized the printer but would not print or scan.  I tried removing and reinstalling and checking for HP printer updates.  NO GOOD.

    3.  Chat line with the 3rd party Microsoft rep.  We tried several things, including removing the Envy 5660, reinstalling, and checking for latest updates.  NO GOOD!!

    4.  Finally, whoever I was chatting with, recommended that I "reset" my computer for a date prior to my installing the Windows 10 update.  We chose a date 4 days ago.  Bottom line:  This did the trick.  Envy 5660 now working, both print and scan mode.

So, WINDOWS 10 is compatible with Envy 5660, just not the latest update, at least not on my computer (HP Pavilion).  The 3rd party Microsoft contractor, while NOT a Microsoft rep was very knowledgeable and professional.  So I am happy that someone who apparently Microsoft does not think are very knowledgeable got my system up and running.

It was your rep who finally decided for me to help reset my computer to setting prior to installation of update.  HP printer now works fine with Windows 10 without update.

1- It wasn't 'my' rep. This is a community forum. No one here represents Microsoft.

2- Microsoft hires third-party contractors to read from scripts and reference manuals. They're certainly polite, but most don't have much real knowledge.

3- Often - and not only with Microsoft - when a script reader recommends a reset, that really means "I don't know what to tell you, so instead let's blow everything away and start from scratch."

Understand.  Bottom Line, HP Envy 5660 was running fine with Microsoft Windows 10 (so it is compatible) until I downloaded the latest Windows 10 update.  That is when things went haywire.  It was your rep who finally decided for me to help reset my computer to setting prior to installation of update.  HP printer now works fine with Windows 10 without update.

I just bought a new HP Windows 10 home edition Desktop for my dad and connected it to his existing HP ENVY 5660.  It worked just fine.  Since the beginning of personal computers sometimes you just have to remove a device, get the latest drivers and reinstall the device.  Good luck! :-)
