Auto-sort by file type

I am trying to sort files in File Explorer by name only.  Currently, there's a default setting where everything sorts by file type, then by filename.  I don't want it sorted by file type--I don't care about the file type.  The file type has no bearing on what I'm trying to do.

The file names begin with an alpha and end with numeric, if that makes a difference.

    Hi AlleyDoesn'tCare

Do you mean you want Windows to sort folders and files alphabetically, I am sorry that has never been possible to do in Windows, folders will always be grouped separately to files

You can have 20 different files types and Windows will sort them by name, but Windows will never intermingle folders with files, regardless of the sorting applied, I am sorry, this just cannot be done . . .

This still sorts by file type first, then name.  I need to sort by name only.  The file type should have no bearing on the sorting style.

    Hi AlleyDoesn'tCare

Greetings! I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

If you right click on an empty space in a folder, you get Sort by where you can click Name

The same can also be accessed by View tab > Sort by

Do let me know if you require any further help on this. Will be glad to help you.

'None' is not an option if you haven't selected a 'Group By' option.

    Hi AlleyDoesn'tCare

    Open that folder of files

On the View Ribbon (tab) set View to Details in the layout section

Click the Group By button and make sure that is set to None

Then, click the Name column header, so that arrow faces up on the column header to sort those files by name alphabetically
