After years of use, suddenly something called "cortana" showed up and I can't get my search box to work anymore because this thing is getting in the way. How do I go back to just having a usable search box? I did not do anything that I'm aware of to cause this.

I tried to paste form prt sc but it won't past.

    Right click the Taskbar

Click 'Show Cortana button' to uncheck it from the Taskbar if its already checked.

Right click the Taskbar again the click Search

    Click Show Search icon

    Hello MysticTuba

I am an Independent Advisor here to help.

'Cortana is part of the Windows 10 experience in the locales where she is available. This means Cortana can't be entirely turned off.'

For information on how to manage the settings for Cortana please refer to the following Microsoft link

Ok, I got the search bar back but cortana is there. I want cortana to be turned off. I want to see the search bar, as it has been for years now, and not have this cortana thing instead. How do I do that?

    Hello MysticTuba

Initially it is important to take into account that Cortana, is from the first version of Windows 10, and through upgrades have been implemented for the virtual assistant. In this order of ideas, uninstalling an update would not eliminate Cortana from the features.

If what you want is not to have the direct access, you can do the following:

    Right click on the taskbar.

In the context menu, select "Cortana" and then choose "Hidden".

This way you can disable it.

I hope this information is useful.

    Best regards,

    Cristhian

I did that and now the task bar has disappeared. Before this happened, the task bar was there and I could type in a search. Now even the task bar is gone. How do I get it back without cortana?
