Note that disabling the service is not (any more) adequate for disabling the dreaded Windows Remediation Service: at some point Microsoft has added a scheduled task that starts "sedlauncher". To disable:

    1. Hit Win + R and type "taskschd.msc"
    2. Navigate to Task Scheduler (Local) > Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > rempl
    3. Right click on the "Shell" task and select "Disable"
    4. Just to be sure, open task manager, locate "sedlauncher" and kill it

I have problems with NTOSKRNL taking up 100 disk usage, rendering my PC completely unusable.

Looking for remedies for this, I can see countless people have had the same issue with Windows 7, 8 and 10.

HOW CAN MICROSOFT CONTINUE TO WRITE SUCH BUGGY SOFTWARE!!!!????!!!!!

MS, please understand that we use your software to get things done.  How can we get anything done with such a buggy operating system?!?!

    Frustration is killing me!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write software that limits disk usage and CPU usage to at least keep the operating system usable!

I can't tell you how many fixes I've applied and patches I've put on and it still doesn't fix the problem.  I'm tempted to go to Mac because I'm finding that Windows is getting more and more problematic and every update issued just introduces another raft of problems. WHY CAN'T YOU FIX ANYTHING!?!?!

I wish the rant was over but even this message took ages to write because the computer (i7, 16gb ram) is sooooooooooooo slow!!!!

I can reset the PC but I have music software, video editing software, photo editing software, etc to reinstall.

It's really unacceptable to have an operating system, this long in the tooth, to still have the same issues that were highlighted several years ago.  It's pants!

Hi R. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

See fixes for high disk usage caused by this Windows Update here:

    https://www.askvg.com/what-are-sedsvc-exe-sedla...

    https://allthings.how/fix-sedlauncher-exe-disk-...

If the above doesn't help after several restarts, since we know the update responsible you can find it at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Yes you can terminate it. I even delete it every single updates. SedLauncher has no legit purpose and is solely intended to spy on your gaming habits to provide suggestions in the store.

A good Remediation Service would fix its own 100% disk usage issue

    ^ This.
