Windows Explorer search options

I have a new computer with Windows 10 installed. When I am looking for a folder in Explorer, I can't type anything without Windows going into search mode.

I prefer to type to get to the folder I need (rather than scrolling), but now I can't hit a key without triggering a search. How do I fix this?

    Hi,

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    I understand that you are facing issue with the Windows Explorer, In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, we would need some information.

    1. What is the version and build of you operating system? In the Searchbox, type winver to get this info.
    2. Are you aware of any changes made on computer before this issue occurred?

    I suggest you to try the following methods and check:

    Open File Explorer window, click the File menu and then select “Change folder and search options.”

    In the Folder Options window, switch to the View tab and then scroll down to the options under “When typing into list view.” Click the option “Automatically type into the Search Box” and then click OK.

    Open File Explorer and start typing to perform a search, it should work fine.
