Windows 10 for dummies

Curious to know if there is by chance some tutorials for the "computer illiterate".  Tutorials about Windows 10, how to use ALL it's features (not the basic, Welcome to windows tour), an advanced tutorial.   Also looking for one on being the windows admin.

For example, when I had windows 7, I had to activate the admin account in the CMD prompt in case I got myself in a pickle.  I'm one of those who will search for hours for a resolution and wind up mangling my software!  Yes, it's true, I'm stubborn and not too bright sometimes....stubborn!

Things to do before I get diving into windows and downloading programs.   Creating a rescue disc  etc...

Help?!  Anyone?!

    Hi David,

Yes... they do make Windows 10  Books for Dummies. But most of the information in them is basic ( How does some of the Apps work etc.) but they do have a lot of very good information in them also. I found a lot of very helpful books at my local library and read every one I could find. However... for some of the information you are looking for, your best bet is to read all you can from this board and also go to Support.Microsoft.com for a lot of very helpful information.

I found that there are a lot of very nice and knowledgeable People right here in our own community. all you need to do is post a question here and someone will always help.

    I Hope This Helps...

If My Reply Answered Your Question, Please Mark It Answered. Thank-You

    Hi David, I'm Bill.

If you have a specific action you'd like to perform, you can search the Microsoft Support site for Windows 10 articles here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/hub/4338813/windows-help?os=windows-10

The Frequently Asked Questions may prove helpful for you too:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/12373/windows-update-faq

Otherwise, if you're looking for a general guided tutorial, there are many available on Youtube. You could search for something like "Windows 10 beginner's guide" and you'll find a number of basic guides that'll help you understand Windows 10 better.

Please let me know if you need anything else! Thanks!

Hi David. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP here to help you.

What we have found is that in Windows 10 everything depends on the quality of the underlying install, the same reason enthusiasts have never run Factory or Upgrade installs because they know there would be endless issues.

For example there have been zero return problems by those who follow the gold standard Clean Install here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... It is better and faster than any previous version of Windows, and a better install than any amount of money could buy. So when you get time I'd study over that to see if it's something I can help you do. You 'll also learn just by reading everything that works best in Windows 10.

To go over your install most thoroughly use this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

Difference between Admin vs Local Accounts is discussed here:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-user-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions.
