USB Tethering - 'No (internet) Connection' but still able to connect partially?

I'm having the issue where I tether my phone's internet access to my laptop via USB and the icon in the taskbar shows that little yellow triangle - indicating there is no connection.

So far,

  1. When I try adding a language in Settings it says that 'You're currently offline'.
  2. When I try to sign in to Microsoft Store after logging out, I get 'It doesn't look like you're connected to the internet. Check your connection and try again' and error code 0x800704cf.

Thing is, I'm able to connect to the internet fine on my phone (browsing, accessing website, etc.). What baffles me even further is that I'm also able to do so on my laptop. It's just the Windows services that aren't really connecting from what I've noticed.

To summarise,

  • Yellow triangle is present - indicating no connection
  • Phone is able to connect to the internet perfectly fine
  • Laptop is able to access the internet, but Windows services aren't

    Click Start

    Type: cmd

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

At the command prompt, type each command then hit Enter:

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /registerdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    NETSH winsock reset catalog

    NETSH int ipv4 reset reset.log

    NETSH int ipv6 reset reset.log

    Hit Enter

    Exit the prompt then restart

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot

    Scroll down

    Click Network adapters

    Click Run the Troubleshooter

When complete, restart to see if the problem is resolved.

    If that does not work

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Network Adapters

    Select the Network card listed,

    Select Update Driver

This should give you a choice of drivers - select the oldest one

Wait a few minutes while it installs the old driver

    or

    press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Network adapters

    Right click your adapter

    Click Uninstall

Exit Device Manager, restart. Windows 10 should detect the network adapter then reinstall it. Check if you can connect and browse.

    also try:

Open Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Status

Scroll to the bottom then click Network reset.

It seems that I have run into more problems and errors I didn't know I had (error 0x80070005 when opening troubleshooter) so I'm just going to format and reinstall windows instead. I have tried multiple fixes and spent hours trying to fix these errors so at this point I'm pretty tired of it already. I think a fresh reinstall will set everything back in order. Thanks for the help guys
