Hello,
This may be a hardware issue, but I figure I'd start here.
I've had multiple instances where Users here will take their laptops home (Lenovo T480s Thinkpad) and
upon return to the office, and inserting the laptop back into it's docking station, the Ethernet adapter
doesn't work (they have to connect to a wireless signal)
is no "Ethernet" option along the left side
the Network Connections window that pops up
just not working
again.
I've gone into the adapter settings - Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network Connections > right click on the ethernet adaptor and select "Properties", then "Configure", then "Power Mgmt (tab)", and have unchecked the "allow the computer to turn off this device..."
But that hasn't resolved the issue.
It's not just a single user. I've had 3-4 people experience this. Not sure where else to look and/or how to resolve.

Thanks Vijay.
That was my first thought as well. In Device Mgr I tried the "update driver" but the most current driver is already installed. I checked Windows update and that is up to date as well.
I downloaded/installed the Lenovo system mgr app and ran the scan, and there were no Ethernet driver updates available.
There's no option to uninstall, or roll back the driver.
Ran the "troubleshoot problems" and no issues were found.
I updated a couple of unrelated drivers and then flashed the BIOS, so we'll see.
Hi Jim. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 10 year Windows MVP here to help you.
You might want to also ask this question at our sister forums for IT Pro's Technet:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-...
I'll give you everything else possible to try in order of priority so that hopefully something works:
Right click the network icon in System Tray at bottom right end of task bar to Troubleshoot Problems.
Try powering off modem PC and then restarting in that order with 1 minute in between each.
Try all of these steps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10741/...
https://www.kapilarya.com/how-to-reset-network-...
Update your network adapter drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page using the full model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.
If you have the latest network driver then try on it's Driver tab also to Roll Back, or Uninstall and then restart PC to reinstall the driver. Try also all older drivers from Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick list working backwards.
If you're using a router try plugging into the Modem. You're also entitled to tech Support from your IP provider to get the speeds you pay for, which is included in your bill.
Another option is you could add an inexpensive Wireless USB nano adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011T5IF06/ref=psdc_1...
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post helped you, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Thanks very much for the reply Greg.
Ran the "troubleshoot problems" and no issues were found.
No modem (office/work environment - laptop connected to wall jack via CAT5 cable)
I didn't do the Network reset just yet, as everything is working ok as of now.
Updating the driver was my first thought as well. In Device Mgr I tried the "update driver" but the most current driver is already installed. I ran a Windows update check and that too is up to date.
There's no option to uninstall, or roll back the driver. I did not try the install older driver suggestion.
I downloaded/installed the Lenovo system mgr app and ran the scan, and there were no Ethernet driver updates available. I didn't have access long enough to go to the Lenovo site, plug in the SN and run the automatic driver update.
I updated a couple of critical drivers (a Bluetooth one included) and then flashed the BIOS.
If it craps out again, I'll try uninstalling the adaptor and rebooting, as well as the network reset. If it
keeps occurring, I'll go directly to the Lenovo site and run that "automatic driver update" and see what it picks up there.
Thanks again!
Hi JimKotsonas1
Greetings! I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. Download the latest Ethernet driver from computer maker's site and Uninstall the current one and install the latest one.
Let me know the result.
