None of the drivers from HP for an HP laserjet 1160 will load into windows 10, 64 bit operating system.  Does Windows 10 support the 1160 and if not why not?  I want to use this printer connected to the HP laptop running windows 10.

    Hi William

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

You likely have to install it through Windows 10 and or use a driver that is closest to it.

    Connect the printer.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: control printers

    Hit Enter

    Click Add printer

Click 'The printer what I want isn't listed'

Select 'Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings'

    Select 'Use an existing port'

    Click Next

Under Manufacturer, scroll down then select the printer brand

Over the right hand side, scroll down through the list and look for your printer model.

If you don't see it, click Windows Update and wait while Windows Update checks for the printer.

If it doesn't find it, click the back button, then click Next again.

This time, select printer brand and in the printer list, select a driver series that closely matches your printer model

Can you not at least try downloading the following driver then try installing it in compatibility mode?

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservic...

You mentioned, it worked under Windows 7 and the driver above is for Windows 8.1. Try installing in compatibility mode and choose Windows 8.1:

Connect the printer when the installation is complete then check if it works.

If not, then you will either need to purchase a new printer or downgrade to a supported version of Windows that supports it.

    Hi William,

Unfortunately the only driver still available is for Win 8 X64 you may need to try this driver. and then follow Andre's   advice on setting it up in windows 10 x64.

I was able to run this printer on windows 7 with my Dell laptop.  The HP laptop running windows 10 will not load a driver that will work on this printer.

    Hi William

The question is not whether Windows supports you printer on Windows 10, the question is whether HP supply device drivers for their printer for Windows 10

The answer, is they last fully supported that printer on Windows XP, they do not provide drivers for Windows 7, 8 or 10, they do provide a DOTA driver, which is not a full drivers and they do not supply any associated software since Windows XP
