Windows Update and Intel Rapid Storage Tech incompatibility

Windows Update can not complete the latest update because my Intel RST driver is a lower version than the latest update requires. I went to the Intel driver site and later versions are available for download. However, the Intel site cautioned that best practice dictates downloading from the computer manufacturer's site as modifications to their 'generic' drivers are often made by hardware manufactures. I have a Dell Laptop. I went to the Dell downloads site but the highest Intel RST driver available for download was a version less than the version required by Windows Update. Windows Update requires version 15.5.2.1054 or higher. Again, nothing that high or higher available on Dell site.  My system is Windows 10 64 bit.

I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

Thank you,

Jon

You could try the fix listed here :

    https://www.tenforums.com/installation-upgrade/137337-i-updated-rst-drivers-still-get-1903-update-error.html

The error still occurs after updating RST drivers because the updated drivers do not remove or update the iastora.sys file and this is the file Windows checks the version of.

Renaming the iastora.sys file can help since if I read it right that file is no longer used by RST when updating to the newer versions.

    Hi,

    Can you do the following:

Windows Key + R > type msinfo32 in the "Open" box > OK

Then expand "Components" then expand "Storage" then click on IDE

In the adjacent right window there should be an Intel SATA AHCI Controller listed.

What is listed for the driver (driver and driver version)?

Can you also do the following :

Can you go the the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder and check to see if there is an iastora.sys

If so, can you right-click the iastora.sys > Properties > Details

    What is the file version?

    Hi KathyWilliams2

Greetings! I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. This is Intel RST Driver error and is a bug. This has not been allowing the computers to upgrade. Microsoft and Intel have been working on this and this not been fixed yet (though it is claimed to be fixed by updating to latest Intel RST driver, but it is not. The fix is here - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/451415... ).

For the time being, only course of action is to wait till a fix is released. Meanwhile, you should block this update so that it doesn't trouble you. If you are yourself trying to update, then no action is needed.

To know which update are getting installed

Windows Key+i to invoke Settings > Update & Security > Click View installed update history.

    Block

Microsoft has provided a tool Show/Hide Updates tool to block the update

Download the tool from below link

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

When you run this troubleshooter, it will search for available updates and list them

Select the update which you want to hide. Click Next and follow on-screen directions

Do let me know if you have any more question or require further help.
