Windows 10 photo app error code 0x80070570

Hello Community,

I have suddenly struck a problem when trying to delete unused folders in File Explorer on my SD card after I have deleted all photos from it as follows

Message says I cannot delete it and I get the error code 0x80070570.  The message also has 3 links across the bottom that say

TRY AGAIN, SKIP, CANCEL.   then next to these 3 links it says  file or directory is corrupted or unreadable.

I have tried googling the problem but all they want is to download apps to do it.

Also when I copy a photo to another location and rename it I get a message saying there is no app to open the photo.  Would this be because after I cut and paste the copied photo sometimes I change the name of the photo because this seems that this is the cause of it.

Sorry to ask 2 questions but they are both related.

I am running windows 10 and have just on the weekend updated to version 1903 but the problems were happening before that.

Many thanks

Liz

Hi Liz

1

Copy all Photos form that SD card into your PC

Open Windows File Explorer, then under 'This PC' right click the SD Card and choose Format, set the file system to FAT32 and start the format

That should fix the SD card

2

With regards to not being able to open Photos:

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Apps and find the Photos App in the resulting list

Select the Photos App, choose Advanced Options and click Reset

That should repair your Photos App, so you can open image files on your PC

    Hi Liz

No, there is no need to backup the Photos App before resetting it, your data is stored on your hard drive, there is nothing actually stored in the App itself . . .

Thank you so much for your quick reply.  I only go on my laptop on average once a week (use my ipad instead) so I will try your instructions out probably on the weekend and get back to you.  Sounds so easy so will keep the instructions in case it happens again.

    thanks again

    Liz

    Hello

A pleasure to help you as an Independent Advisor.

I comment that Windows 10 has an option to verify and repair errors on your hard drive.

For this, it will be necessary to access the file explorer, pressing the Windows key + E then display "This PC" and select the storage unit (SD) right-click and select "Properties":

When the new window opens, select the "Tools" tab and then click on the "Check" option, enable all the checking options and run the process.

After finishing the repair we can delete the file that was not allowed to be deleted without any problem.

I hope that the suggested steps will be very useful otherwise let me know.

    Regards

Hi I'm Peter an independent advisor, this error can occur when you are installing or updating Windows or when your copying files from a hard drive/ SD card, etc. To resolve this issue, we suggest following the methods below:

    Method 1. Startup Repair

Right-click the Start button, select Shut down or Sign out, then choose Restart while holding the Shift button.
Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
Enter the administrator password when you're asked.
The Startup Repair will try fixing the device. In the end, you'll see a report if repairing fixed the issue or not.
    Method 2. Disable Antivirus

Method 3. Check hard drive/ SD card errors

Go to This PC, right-click the name of the SD card to scan.
Select Properties, go to the Tools tab, then click Check.
Kindly check Automatically fix system errors, click Start.
Windows will scan the SD card, wait for a few seconds. Once done, perform a scan on the other drives of your PC.

Also try formatting the sd card from My PC.... Right click the sd card drive and select format.

For the second question, press Start then Settings, go to default apps, scroll down to photos and make sure you add a program which will open as default ie paint, photo viewer or the photos app

    Have a great day
