Default Gateway is Not Available - NOTHING WORKS(event log included)

Anonymous
2019-08-23T15:52:04+00:00

Tried all of the troubleshooting tips...finally did a repair reset of Windows as a last resort - still nothing.  Getting frequent and random disconnects every ten or so minutes.  Was having this issue before the latest massive OS update, and seemed to be able to fix via one of the methods - but now nothing seems to work.

I'd be very appreciative of any assistance that could be offered!

Remember, there is a hidden default Administrator account thats disable by default. Thats the account I wanted you to enable then log into.

Thanks for filing the bug report, will go ahead and vote on it.

    Thank you, again, Andre.

To answer your questions, yes; I am logged into the administrator account(there is only one account, btw).

It looks like I may have to rollback, but here is the feedback link.  I appreciate the support and help greatly.

If this was a recent feature update (new version of Windows 10), it likely introduced a bug thats affecting the adapter.

I would also recommend you file a bug report; send me the short link so I can vote on it and bring it to the attention of the Windows engineers.

    https://windows10.help/blogs/entry/54-how-to-su...

Could you confirm if this also happens in the default Administrator account?

    Open Start

    Type: cmd

    Right click CMD

    Click Run as administrator

    At the command prompt, type:

    net user administrator /active:yes

    Hit Enter

Close command prompt, restart, then try signing into the Administrator account.

If it still does, then the best option is for you to rollback to the previous version where it was working properly:

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

    or

Press Control + Alt + Delete

    Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen

Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart

Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1903 again. See instructions how to block it:

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/block-windows-...

Thank you kindly for the swift reply, Andre!

All of the requested information reads  "To Be Filled By O.E.M."  I believe this is due to the fact that I custom built my machine from scratch.

I am definitely not too far from the router, since it worked perfectly before the major Windows update of recent.  The router and modem are fairly new and work on other devices(such as laptops) with the disconnecting issue on my tower PC.

I'll attempt to uninstall each USB driver from the Device Manager, but I tried the wireless adapter in two separate ports(and no other USB-based peripheral devices suffer from "ejections" whilst plugged in).

    Any other suggestions or recommendations?

    Hi Adam

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

What is the exact make and model?

    Open Start, type: system information

    Hit Enter

    Click System summary

    Look in the right pane

Copy the system sku info into reply here.

    See example: https://imgur.com/qzektpA

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers at the bottom

Right click each entry then click uninstall

    Exit then restart

Windows 10 will then redetect them.

    Check if they then work.

    • Your router might be out of date, needs to be updated with a new firmware or replaced.

There might be interference from other devices within your environment or if you are connecting to the other machine remotely, you might actually be too far away from the router.

You can try restarting both the router and modem or consider replacing it all together since it might be the bottleneck.

    • The software running on all devices might need updating or are running older outdated versions of Windows 10. Make sure they each updated to the latest versions.

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates

Download and install any pending updates

    Restart your computer

Go to the following page then click 'Update Now'

    https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/win...

Other potential causes might be beyond control, such as your neighbour performing high bandwidth activities like downloading a lot of large content.
