Advanced System Repair Pro V Advanced Systemcare Pro

I have been following discussion on here about Advanced System Repair Pro which confirms it is a **scam.**I have been receiving email reminders from Advanced System Repair Pro although have never used it so just delete their emails. But have subscribed to Iobit's Advanced SystemCare Pro without problems for several years. Yet members here say that any such software can be dangerous and is not required on Win 10. Can anyone confirm that Advanced SystemCare Pro is not putting me at risk? I find several of their services excellent such as the uninstaller (seems to do a better job that Win10) , Driver updater and Junk cleaner.

    Hi Memsahib

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

We call such software utilities snake oil software and they usually make your system worse and entrap you to contact the developer or whoever is pushing the software for support they charge you for.

I recommend you remove it completely from your system.

Use Revouninstaller to uninstall all existing installations of that software:

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-comple...

    Also....

Click Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features

Look through the list for any entries for suspicious software installed

    Select it then click uninstall

Reset all your web browsers to their original factors state

In Microsoft Edge - Click Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Microsoft Edge

Select it, click Advanced options > Reset

Also use ESET Sysrescue offline scanner to scan and clean the computer, see instructions in the following article:

    HI memsahib,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 2-Year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

There are many problems with these care programs:

    1. They might come with adware.
    2. Programs like Driver updater often install wrong drivers. Always install drivers from the manufacturer.
    3. Windows has a cleaner built-in called Storage sense which automatically frees up space as required.
    4. They clear registry which is absolutely a bad idea to do as per Microsoft.

Hope this clears a bit, let us know if there is anything else.

HI Sahib. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Guardian Moderator here to help you.

There is no reason an optimizing suite is needed in Windows 10 and lots of ways they can cause problems without being able to reverse them.

What is needed in Windows 10 is a great install. Compare the install you have with this gold standard Clean Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

The reason I ask you to do this is because no one of millions who have followed the install in that link have ever come back to report problems that I have seen. It is also a great learning experience that will make you permanently the master of your PC because you will learn what works best and have applied it with your own hands.

To go over your present install integrity, go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

If nothing else helps you can run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows in about an hour while saving your files, apps and most settings, solves many problems while also bringing it up to the latest version 1903 which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m....

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi MEMSAHIB

I am an independent advisor here to help

We should always be wary of third-party services that clean our systems. These services can alter the Windows registry in irreparable ways. And in  many cases they are actually a front for malware and spyware.

That being said Microsoft does not recommend that any of these types of services be used.

However, although I have not used it in several years, I have used software from IObit in the past without issue. I also have personally not seen any reports against this particular software.
