I was connecting my laptop to a Smart TV Screen when a horizontal green line appeared on my laptop screen. No prior accident in my laptop happened. Can I troubleshoot anything on my laptop before I resort to screen replacement?

    Hi Rutchell

Most likely this is just caused by your video card device driver

    1

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Display Adapters Section

Right click your video card and choose Properties

On the Driver Tab, choose 'Roll back Driver'

Restart your PC once done . . .

    2

If that option is grayed out or does not resolve the issue, go to the support page for your device on the manufacturers website, then download and install the video driver they recommend, it may well be an older version to the one you are currently running

    Hi Rutchell

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Usually a green line would suggest there is an issue with the laptop ribbon cable or display adapter.

What type of connection are you using for the second display: HDMI, Display Port, DVI?

Its possible there might be an issue with your adapter or cable connection. You could try nudging the cable to see if it works or change out the cable.

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Monitors

    Right click the monitor/TV

    Click uninstall

Restart your computer then check if its working again properly.

You can also try lowering the screen resolution of the second monitor to see if that works.

    OR

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Properties

    Click Driver tab

Click Rollback driver if the option is available

    If not

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Uninstall

Check the box that says, "Delete the driver software for this device.”

    Exit Device Manager

    Restart

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates

Download and install any pending updates

    Restart your computer

    Hi Rutchell

That may well be a problem with your actual screen . . .

Does that line appear when you boot up your PC on the manufacturers logo screen, before Windows starts to load, if so, most likely that is a problem with your screen.

If that does not appear on the Manufacturers logo screen, please try the above method to install an older version of your video card driver . . .

Ditto, it does have that look to it. Unfortunately, full display screen replacements can often be/become cost prohibitive, or much a wash to replacing the device itself instead, even when performing the replacement procedure oneself, in many cases (depending on the device). But alass...
