Hello,
My name is Jennifer, an independent advisor trying to help.
This is the only way to configure a proxy in Windows 10
The proxy you define in your configuration with these steps applies to Google Chrome, Firefox, Explorer or Edge browsers. It is not necessary to configure each one separately.
- Click on the Windows 10 Start menu and choose Settings.
- In the window that opens, select the Network and Internet category.
- Another window opens. Look to the left for the Proxy option and click on it.
- Click on this link to continue.
Activate manual proxy settings
Continue the steps you started earlier:
- Find the automatic configuration section on the top right. DEACTIVATE there the kind of switches Detect the configuration automatically and Use configuration script.
- With those switches already deactivated go to the bottom of manual configuration. Check the Use proxy server box.
- Click to continue.
Now indicate the server data you want to use:
- When activating the manual configuration, the Address and Port fields of the proxy are displayed. Write the corresponding ones according to which one you want to use. You can follow this link to find the best proxies. Take a free and anonymous server search engine.
- Check the Do not use proxy server for local (intranet) addresses box below. It is the option that suits more in general.
- Press the Save button to make the changes.
From this moment you will connect to the Internet through the server of your choice. Try entering a web page to see if the new configuration works well. It must be worth with Chrome or any other browser. If necessary follow this link on what to do if the new configuration gives problems.
Solve problems with proxies
Try these solutions in order if the proxy change causes a failure. Like the connection seems not to work. When you can't get into any website or if the pages take a long time to load.
SOLUTION 1: Test with another server
- Search for a new proxy. Maybe the one you used before had a temporary problem or is no longer active.
- Then follow the steps from Tab 1 again to set it as predefined.
SOLUTION 2: Restore automatic settings
- Click on the Windows Start menu. Choose Settings and then Network and Internet. In the window that opens, select Proxy on the left.
- Look to the right for the automatic configuration section. Turn on your switch Detect settings automatically.
- Go down to the manual configuration section below. Turn off the Use proxy server switch.
- Close the configuration window.
Regards.
Hi, thanks for the quick response, however this did not answer my question. I currently can access my school and home networks however, to switch between them I have to enable the "use a proxy server" every time I want to connect to my school network, and turn it off every time I arrive at home. Is it possible to automatically use a proxy server when I am connected to a specific network?
