When I follow instructions to download the Windows 10 iso to recover a windows 10 computer that crashed during those incessant updates, I end up with windows 7 even though I follow instructions to get 10.  Please help!

And YES, the Windows 10 creation media is giving me Windows 7, and yes, I am using the correct link!

Funny how my computer displays this picture upright, but the Microsoft website posts it upside-down!  Maybe it's time to move to another OS.....

The same thing happens when I try to just boot the computer.  When I do safe mode, it is loading drivers, then just stops.  My guess is a driver.  I fixed that once before, but I don't remember how I did it.  I am an old fart.

Whether I use a Windows 10 or Windows 7 image, it gets to "System Recovery Options" window, then it just sits there for hours "spinning" (working) and won't let me click "next" or "load drivers."

My important files for the most part are on an E drive, although I can load a Linux disk and move anything else I need to the D drive if I need to scrub the drive and re-install an OS.

So you boot from the USB you have created and the image is what you see. What happens if you choose Troubleshoot and the Advanced options, do you see this:

Nope.  As I said, I am just trying to repair a crash (which often happens) during windows updates.  I know your confused.  I am too.  That's why I'm asking.  Microsoft work seems to be getting shoddy lately.  I wish linux would run the software I use most.

Did you upgrade from Windows 7 ?

So in your screenshot did you boot from the USB to try to repair your installation of Windows 10?

What happens if you select Troubleshoot, do you get Advanced options? Do any of the options work.

I'm wondering if the ref to Windows 7 is just mis-detecting what you have installed.
