Why doesn't Eudora.Exe run after windows 10 version 1903 update?

Eudora Version 7.1.0.9 ran fine before updating to v1903. After update, it doesn't load or shows a memory violation. I have reverted to previous update version.

    Hi Ken

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Eudora is not officially supported or actively developed to support Windows 10.

You could try launching it in compatibility mode:

Run Old Software on Windows 10 with Compatibility Mode - groovyPost

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/run-old-softwa...

Ultimately, your best option if that does not work is to rollback to your previous version of Windows 10 and stick with it if you need to use Eudora:

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

    or

Press Control + Alt + Delete

    Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen

Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart

Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1809 again. See instructions how to block it:

Thanks. I've been using Eudora since 1998. The Mail App on my smartphone is adequate to see today's emails but nothing compares to Eudora's ability to manage mailboxes, filters, and searches for the huge collection of emails of over 20 years. I will have to keep it going on some platform to access that information. I agree that Eudora will have to die unless the HERMES group at SourceForge is successful at rebuilding it. Ce La Vie, Ce La Microsoft.

The last version of Eudora was released in 2006! You should be glad (and amazed!) that it continued to work for so long without any developer support.

But unsupported software (and hardware) live on for only so long until they can no longer work properly, if they work at all, with new technology. For Eudora, v.1903 may finally be the end of the road.

It's the end of the road in another way too: installed email clients are rapidly becoming extinct. Webmail has overtaken them.

Thanks. As I suspected. I hope I don't find this kind of problem with other 16/32 bit programs. Fortunately Visual Basic 6 still worked with v1903. Other comments below.

I understand. It's a challenge to leave Eudora for Outlook. I don't know if there is  a way to migrate the many years of emails to a new client.

You could try launching it in compatibility mode:

I tried Win 7 compatibility with no success.

Run Old Software on Windows 10 with Compatibility Mode - groovyPost

I tried to run the compatibility Troubleshooter but it wouldn't run.

Ultimately, your best option if that does not work is to rollback to your previous version of Windows 10 and stick with it if you need to use Eudora:

I have reverted to version 1809 and Eudora starts and runs OK.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.

    or

Press Control + Alt + Delete

Here is a thread with how you can get in touch with folks who maintain the code for Eudora:

Information in the above link is sourced from a trusted Microsoft MVP blog.

Have you talked to the maker to see if there is a new driver?
