Windows 10 OEM vs Windows 10 Pro

Accidentally purchased Windows 10 OEM version. From what I've read, this isn't the end of the world just some limitations if I decide to switch MOBOs. I started the install and it came to provide a product key. I have absolutely 0 product key on this thing. No multicolored ribbon to scratch off or peel away. I've researched for hours and know exactly what it looks like and I simply do not have one. Bought off NewEgg and have contacted their Customer Service with no luck.

Looks like I'm stuck with just repurchasing and grabbing the right thing this time. Biggest question is do I need to uninstall this OEM version or what steps do I need to take to make sure I don't have 2 versions of Windows downloaded on my brand new PC? Hoping I can just put in the Pro product key, the system recognizes, and just downloads the proper version, but that seems like a possible long shot.

Thank you very much!

    Hi C

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

If you decide to cut your losses, you can always purchase a genuine Windows 10 Pro license directly from the Microsoft Store. You will receive the product key by email:

Buy Windows 10 Pro - Microsoft Store

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/windows-10-pr...

You can the update the product key values in Windows 10 Pro and it should automatically activate over the Internet.

Click Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation > Change the product key then enter the new product key then click Next to Activate

You should still try reaching out to New Egg though since they are reputable site and indicate to them the product key is no in the package. Sometimes theft happens and the product key usually stolen.

I also have photos of the packaging that will show no rainbow sticker to scratch off anywhere on the packaging.
