Windows 10 Update Intel Rapid Storage Technology Error

I am trying to update my laptop to Windows 10 version 1903, but I keep getting an error about my Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver being incompatible. I have tried to install a newer version, but it does not seem to change anything. When I attempt to download and install the driver update from my laptop manufacturer's website, it begins to install, but then the installation window randomly closes. How do I update the Intel driver correctly so I can update my Windows 10 version?

The iastorac.sys (16.5.0.1027), which is a loaded driver (the driver being used) should not block the update but the iastora.sys (15.2.12.1048), which should not be loaded (not being used) may be blocking the update (according to the following article):

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/451415...

Can you right-click the iastora.sys in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder and rename the iastora.sys to iastora.old

Create a System Restore Point beforehand and restart the computer afterwards.

    Then try the update again.

    Hi,

    Can you do the following:

Windows Key + R > type msinfo32 in the "Open" box > OK

Then expand "Components" then expand "Storage" then click on IDE

In the adjacent right window there should be an Intel SATA AHCI Controller listed.

What is listed for the driver (driver and driver version)?

Can you also do the following :

Can you go the the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder and check to see if there is an iastora.sys

If so, can you right-click the iastora.sys > Properties > Details

    What is the file version?

Hi Christina. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 10 year Windows MVP here to help you.

See fix for this issue here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/451415...

I would manually upgrade to the latest version 1903 by opening the Media Creation Tool from this link:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install, choose Download Tool Now, then open the tool and choose Upgrade This PC Now.   This saves your files, apps and most settings in place, is the most stable method to change versions, brings your Updates current, resolves most problems.

If any problems report back the verbatim error and number, then continue with these steps for overcoming Version Upgrade problems:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows\_10-windows\_install/overcoming-windows-10-upgrade-failures/682df9cf-aecf-4d52-8df7-19e9f8dba4cc

If the Version has problems I will work with you to try to resolve them. If the problems are intractable, you have ten days to roll it back in Recovery settings.

Most problems are resolved by doing this gold standard Clean Install which should get you past all difficulties as it has millions of others who have followed the steps in this link and never come back to report another problem:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows\_10-windows\_install/clean-reinstall-windows-10-upgradefactory-oem/1c426bdf-79b1-4d42-be93-17378d93e587 . So read it over and see if its something you want to learn to do.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.  If you'll wait to rate whether my post helped you, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
