Brightness keys don't work

A few months ago, the brightness keys on my keyboard stopped working and it's driving me insane, having to navigate to settings to change brightness. The volume buttons, all the other special function keys, and also f6 and f7 without holding the function key (that is, when I use f6 and f7 as function keys they work but not when I hold the "fn" button to make them change the brightness).

Could there be something wrong with my drivers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What a coincidence, I have an HP computer as well. It is the Elitebook 840.

    Hi CALVINCAO

I am an independent advisor here to help

I recently had the same issue and it drove me crazy for a while. The only way I could adjust brightness settings was to search for brightness in the windows search bar and then click on the Windows brightness setting.

I ended up checking with HP who makes my laptop and I found that there were a lot of updates for my laptop from HP and when I was finished installing them the issue was resolved.

If you could tell me the make and model of your computer I'd be happy to help you track down whether or not there are available updates from the computer manufacturer.

In that case let's hope that you have the same issue I have and will be able to resolve it very easily.

What I did was I installed the HP support assistant from the following link

    http://www.hp.com/go/hpsupportassistant

Once installed, run the HP support assistant and among other things that it does it checks for any available updates for your computer and then allows you to download them and install them directly through the support assistant program.

In my case, while I had been getting Windows updates on a regular and consistent basis I had not checked with HP for any updates for my computer in probably a couple of years and it took me two days to get through all of the updates that the HP support assistant offered. Of course I wasn't working on it 24 hours a day I have other things to do.

I already had the support assistant preinstalled on my device - unfortunately, it only had two updates available after I scanned and none of them fixed the problem.

you also can find all of the latest software and drivers for your computer from HP at the following link if for some reason you don't want to use the support assistant
