I keep all my photos in the Windows Pictures folder (in many sub-folders). I have noted that there are numerous pix in Google Photos that are NOT in the Windows Pictures folder. I have been researching the Web to determine how pix in Google can be transferred to the Windows Pictures sub-folders. I do not use Google Drive would rather not use it or Windows Photo app to do this if possible. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Simply download your pictures from Google Photos directly to your computer. It's so easy. Here's how:

In Google Photos, rest your mouse pointer on any photo. You'll see a small, empty white circle appear in the upper left corner of the photo. Click once inside the circle, and the circle will turn blue and there will be a white check mark inside. The photo is now 'selected.' Do this over and over until you've selected every photo that you wish to select.

Now click once on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the Google Photos web page. The menu opens and choice #1 is 'Download.' It's that simple.

Since you use Google Photos, that means you have a Google account (because you can't use Google Photos without one.) And since you have a Google account you also have Google Drive, GMail, and all the other features that come with a Google account. You don't have to use any of them, of course.

I'm already familiar with the process you described. However, I don't know where the photos go on the PC once downloaded and if there is any way to control the destination.

No problem. Keep in mind that downloading is performed by your web browser, so that's where you'll find the settings that control where downloads go.

Every web browser, in its settings, gives you a choice of two places:

    • a default folder that you specify - most people choose Downloads; or
    • 'ask me every time'

    Hi Donald

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

You will have to sign into https://photos.google.com/ then download them manually:

    or

You use the free Google Backup and Sync software to download all of them, cut and paste them out of Google's folder into the Pictures folder.

You can always uninstall the Backup and Sync software after. Learn how:

Which you is why, if you want to get them off Google Photos in the cloud (your web browser), down to your PC into the Pictures folder, you need to use the Google Backup and Sync software.

I also use the Google Photos app on my iPhone backup my camera roll to Google Photos.

When I want to copy them back to my Windows 10 Surface Pro 3 computer, I use the Google Backup and Sync software or manually download them.
