Windows 10 CPU Usage 100%

Hi!

I have been having problems with my CPU usage. It's always 100%, but nothing is running in the background. When I open Task Manager, the percentages jump up and down really weirdly. Once there is Task Manager using 70% of CPU, one second later it goes back down... Then comes like Discord on the top with again 50% CPU usage and again sec later it jumps back down... like It's constantly doing this with different programs like: System, System Interrupts, Chrome, Desktop Windows Manager...

    Hi Vintpüss,

I'm Roshan V S, Windows expert and a Windows user like you.

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and we are happy to help you.

    Try the following methods :

    Method 1: Disable Superfetch

    1. Open Taskmanager, click “More details,” then click “CPU” to order processes by how much CPU they’re using.
    2. Press Win+R, type "services"
    3. then in the Services window scroll down to Superfetch.
    4. Right-click Superfetch, click Properties, then in its Properties window click the drop-down next to “Startup type,” click “Disabled,, and OK.

Method 2: Reset Your Power Plan

    1. Type "power plan" into the Start search bar.
    2. Then click “Choose a power plan.”
    3. If you’re on “High performance” or “Power Saver,” then switch to “Balanced.”
    4. For extra certainty, click “Change plan settings,” then on the new screen click “Restore default settings for this plan.”

Method 3: Disable Third-Party Antivirus Software

Our view here is that if you’re using antivirus software on Windows 10, then you’re probably putting unnecessary strain on your CPU (particularly if its older). It doesn’t usually hurt to have the extra security, but you probably don’t need it.

So don’t be afraid to disable your third-party antivirus software to see if it helps your CPU usage. If it does, then uninstall it, because Windows Defender should really have you covered.

Do get back to us with the result. We will be glad to help if you need further assistance.

    Regards

    Roshan V S

For information, disabling the Broadcom NFC driver has fixed the constant 50% CPU usage by "System" and "Interruptions System " services.

I have been using Avast Antivirus Software for several years now and there has not been any problems until now it seems like. I disabled all the Avast shields.

    Thank you! :)

#In short for other people / 3rd party Antivirus Software was causing the problem for me

R-click Avast -> Avast shields control -> Disable
