How do i create a boot/recovery DVD for windows 10/1903

As the subject line states, I've read numerous articles on how to create a bootable DVD for my windows 10 OS and most articles mention about a file called Windows ISO. I've searched by drives for this file. Nothing. (1) do I really need this file? (2) is there a clear step by step article, especially for rookies, that explain the process?

I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thank You

    Hi

Steps on how to create bootable media:

    > Download Media Creation Tool from this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Before you download the tool make sure you have:

    • An internet connection (internet service provider fees may apply).
    • Sufficient data storage available on a computer, USB or external drive for the download.
    • A blank USB flash drive or DVD (and DVD burner) with at least 8 GB of space if you want to create media. We recommend using a blank USB or blank DVD, because any content on it will be deleted.
    • FAT32 format on either USB drive or CD/DVD.
    1. Select Download tool now, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
    2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
    3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
    4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10.
    5. Select which media you want to use:
      1. USB flash drive. Attach a blank USB flash drive with at least 4GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
      • ISO file. Save an ISO file to your PC, which you can use to create a DVD. After the file is downloaded, you can go to location where the file is saved, or select Open DVD burner, and follow the instructions to burn the file to a DVD. For more info about using an ISO file, see Additional methods for using the ISO file to install Windows 10 section below.

    Hi Counter,

I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 2-Year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

ISO file is Installation Media File, that serves as an Installation disk and recovery disk. You would need this file, to create a recovery disk/drive. As a single-layer DVD cannot contain the installation media of 5 GB, Microsoft recommends using a USB drive instead.

Nowadays the process is very easy to create an installation drive. Please download the Media Creation Tool from the link below and select create Installation media.

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209

It should automatically detect computer configuration and download accordingly.

When prompted, choose USB drive if you are choosing a flash drive. It should automaitcally download the ISO file and make bootable media. If you explicitly need to create a DVD- which should be a dual layer, let me know.

Step by step guide is option 1 here:

I thank all of you for your reply's.  First, I already have Windows 10 / 1903 running on this computer. I just need a DVD that I can use to start my machine in case this drive goes belly up. There must be a way to insert a DVD in the DVD drive and boot the computer once a "New" drive is installed.  I have "All" my operating system files etc. that Windows 10 uses backed up to another drive. I have my computer set up as follows:

C: has the operating system and all the programs needed for windows 10, Internet Explorer, Office etc.

D: has all my files I've created in Word, Excel, PP etc. along  with videos and pictures.

E: is my Backup drive. It runs and backs up daily.

What I don't have is a Disk to use to start the computer and run restore the OS onto the "New" C drive that I hope never happens.

Thank again folks. I sorry for the miscommunication.  My bad
