What is this Xbox app that got installed on my PC?

I turned on my PC and while was waiting for my backup to computer, this XBox app suddenly appeared on my PC. I don't play games and didn't install it myself. I also have User Controls set so it should have asked me before it installed. This same thing happened on a second PC yesterday, so I think this is something Microsoft installed on its own. Like an update.

    Hi ,Kevin6TO

My name is Marc, thanks for participating in the Microsoft Community, I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

Microsoft made the decision to make it a default app in the first place. Following its introduction alongside Windows 10, the Xbox app has gone from strength to strength, and has cemented itself as the gaming hub for those who play across Xbox One and PC.

Most likely, with an update now you get it at the beginning, would you like to uninstall this app?

    Regards,

    Marc M.

    Hi Marc

    Thanks for your reply.

If it is just an app that comes with windows now (like notepad, or paint, etc.) and it won't be popping up when I'm not trying to use it, then I guess it can stay there. It was just a surprise to see it suddenly on my screen.

    Thank you both.

So far it has only opened the one time. Maybe after it got installed. Or maybe it was installed with the last update, and Microsoft just opened it to try to get me to use it, like they do with Microsoft Edge. Every now and then when I start up my PC, Microsoft Edge will open even though I never use it. I suppose it was the same thing. Microsoft pushing their products.

    But thanks for the information.

You can remove the XBOX app...

In the Start menu, R/click on Start and select Command Prompt (admin) Then copy and paste the command below

into Command Prompt and tap Enter ( It may not be necessary to tap Enter ? It's been a long time since I used it).

This is from  option #5 but you may prefer using one of the other options. They all do it a bit differently.

    powershell -command "Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.XboxApp* | Remove-AppxPackage"

    • You can remove other XBOX related apps and a whole lot of other stuff you may not use with this method as well....

Note that this does not remove the apps from Windows entirely, but they will be removed from Start Menu and be disabled.
